70-year-old Sheffield man, John Simmonett, was the lucky winner of the £1,500 second prize in the St Luke’s Winter Raffle, drawn at the start of December.
Our Winter Raffle runs each year throughout the winter months, offering thousands of pounds in prizes, whilst also raising vital funds for patients and families.
This year’s raffle featured a £2,500 top prize, £1,500 second prize, £750 third prize and £250 fourth prize.
Family-man John, of Sothall Sheffield, has been supporting the charity for over a decade, and is also a loyal member of the weekly St Luke’s Lottery.
“I support St Luke’s as my local charity, as I know just how important it is for the Sheffield community,” said John.
“By playing the St Luke’s Lottery, I can do my bit to support a charity that is reliant on donations from the public, due to low funding from the NHS.”
John added: “I feel so lucky and privileged to win this prize, especially at this time of year. I’m going to continue supporting St Luke’s raffles, and playing the Lottery, as I know just how important contributions like this are.”
And when asked what he would spend his winning on, he says they may well go towards some of his many hobbies.
A retired engineer, John now enjoys cooking, gardening and brewing his own real ale – with more than a dozen varieties in his garage, including chocolate and vanilla! He also makes homemade wine and loves spending time with his daughter and two grandchildren.
