About our finances

Day in, day out we depend entirely on the commitment and generosity of many, many people across Sheffield and beyond to provide most of the money we need.

Government funding via the NHS Sheffield Clinical Commissioning Group covers a declining proportion of the income we need – currently just 24%.

This means that in the financial year 2018-19 we'll need to raise more than £6.4 million of £9.4 million total income required.

There’s no charge for any of our services to patients.

It costs £1,073 per hour to run St Luke’s, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Of that £1,073, we have to raise £788 ourselves.

88% of our expenditure goes on direct costs, 12% on support costs.

Because of our high profile in Sheffield and in the local media, some people assume that we’re a rich charity. We aren’t. If all our income were to cease, we could only keep going for about six months.
