Netherby knitters raise more than £18,000

THEY knit, they chat…and between them they have raised an incredible £18,000 plus for our patient care!

Netherby Knit and Natter is the Beauchief-based crafting and social group that started knitting in memory of member Jill Driskell’s son Will, who was a St Luke’s patient as he battled against lymphoma.

It was Will who had actually encouraged Jill to take up knitting and following his death it became a hobby that grew into an extremely successful fundraising campaign.

And in the years since then, the group – made up of Jill and knitting friends Kate Race, Judy Needham, Liz Birkby, Diane Woodward, Judith Barton, Vera South, Elsie Elliot and Alison Manning - have now raised a fantastic total of £18,316.74 through several annual fundraisers.

“The Netherby Knit and Natter group have become major supporters of St Luke’s since they first picked up their knitting needles,” said our Community Fundraiser Ellie Matthews.

“Their creativity and enthusiasm really does make a massive difference to the lives of our patients and their families.”

The group’s next craft sale is on Saturday, March 18 at 231 Abbey Lane from 10am to 1pm.
