Alfie’s crop raises £1,000

IT’S a stylish new look for young Alfie Sansom…and a £1,000 boost for St Luke’s Hospice!

Alfie, who is 11 and lives with his family in Wincobank, has been growing his hair to waist length since he was in infant school.

But when he heard of the treatment his grandma Pam had received during her time at St Luke’s Hospice, he decided he wanted to raise money as a thank you - and that the hair would have to go!

A visit to the Marcel Wave salon at Malin Bridge, where Pam was a customer, saw Alfie emerge with a more manageable shoulder length style.

The unwanted hair then went to the Little Princess Trust, the charity that provides real hair wigs, free of charge, to children and young people who have lost their own hair through cancer treatment and other conditions.

And sponsorship money which came to a fantastic final total of £1,000 has been given to St Luke’s.

“We are all delighted that Alfie decided to do this for us,” said St Luke’s Fundraising Account manager Matthew Sheridan.

“This was an amazing amount to raise and Alfie and his family can be assured that it will make a real difference to the lives of St Luke’s patients in this our 50th anniversary year.”
