Ship ahoy for double birthday celebration

IT’s a double celebration as Dore Gilbert and Sullivan Society sets sail on a 50th anniversary production of The Pirates of Penzance.

For the new production of the classic buccaneering operetta will be supporting our patient care as we too celebrate our 50th birthday.

“When we heard that we shared our golden anniversary year with St Luke’s we knew this had to be the charity we would support,” sad Dore chairman Alan Wade.

“So many people across Sheffield, including members of our group, will have had personal experience of the great work that St Luke’s is doing throughout the city.

“We are honoured to be supporting them as part of our new production of The Pirates of Penzance and hope our audiences will be happy to show their support and generosity too.”

The acclaimed community theatre company was launched back in 1972 and since then The Pirates of Penzance has always been one of the society’s enduring and frequently revived shows.

This new revival of the celebrated Gilbert and Sullivan comedy comes to the Montgomery Theatre in Surrey Street from April 6 to 9, directed by Graham Weston, with musical direction by Martin Yates.
