Young Home Runner Eddie sets the pace for fundraising

YOU’RE never too young to be a champion fundraiser…as seven-year-old Eddie Reynolds has proved after running up a fantastic £450.

Eddie, who lives with mum and dad Lisa and Andy in Richmond, Sheffield, took part in Home Run, our March virtual fundraising event, which saw participants running 13 miles to help raise vital funds for our services.

But Stradbroke Primary School pupil Eddie was determined to run a total of 60 miles in memory of his grandma Kathleen Maddock, who was a St Luke’s patient.

“And by the time the month was over, he had actually completed an outstanding 65 miles and raised £450.

“He ran a mile with me in the morning and then he did a mile while he was at school,” said dad Andy.

“He knows about St Luke’s and how they looked after his gran and he said he wanted to take part.

“He was determined to keep going all the way through March and we are very proud of him.

“He has also been doing odd jobs around the house to raise money for his summer holiday and has made about £60 - but he even decided he was going to donate £40 of that to St Luke’s too.

“When I asked him if he was sure about this he said: ‘Yes, I can always earn more money for my holidays!’”

Our Head of Fundraising Joasia Lesniak commented: “Eddie is not only a Home Run champion but he’s also a shining example to us all.

“He has put so much effort into Home Run and everybody at St Luke’s is very proud of what he has achieved.”
