Cousins Gemma and Lorna are stepping out

COUSINS Gemma Reaney and Lorna Cutting are both aiming to make their mark when they take part in our 2020 Virtual Night Strider.

Night Strider is the popular St Luke’s October charity spectacular that usually sees supporters heading off into the night on either a 10k or walking half marathon challenge.

2020 would have marked Night Strider’s sixth anniversary but when the COVID-19 pandemic took hold, a new plan had to be developed - and Night Strider has gone virtual!

The Night Strider virtual challenge - sponsored by Pricecheck and Gripple - will see participants register free of charge to do their own fundraising event any time between between Saturday  October 3 - the ‘evening that Night Strider would have taken place - and Saturday October 31.

For Gemma that will mean completing a 10,000 steps per day challenge for every day of October - often with seven-week-old baby daughter Florence for company.

And she might even be able to persuade sons Finlay and Noah to join her occasionally on her daily sessions around her home neighbourhood in Mosborough.

At the same time, Lorna is also gearing up to complete 10,000 steps per day, with sponsorship already standing at £80.

“Our grandad Geoffrey Green was a patient at St Luke’s so we know all about the standards of care at the hospice and how good it is,” said Gemma.

"He was a patient for three weeks at the end of his life and everybody was just amazing so now we are doing everything we can to fundraise.

“In the past we have done several St Luke’s events and we’ve always enjoyed being a part of it.

“Our grandad said he wanted us to raise money for St Luke’s and that’s what we have done.”
