Marathon golf pair raise £1,500

STOCKSBRIDGE Golf Club Captain Steven Haigh and League Team player Matt Sedgwick raised more than £1,500 for our patient care as they braved summer downpours and completed 10 rounds of golf in just one day.

The pair teed off at 3.55am and finished at 9.45pm after covering a remarkable 35 miles in 83,000 steps and climbing the equivalent of 600 flights of stairs on the hilly Stocksbridge course.

By the end of the gruelling sporting session that had raised more than £1,500 for St Luke’s, which is the golf club’s nominated charity of the year.

Said Stephen: “We have set a mark here now and I hope somebody takes the challenge on next year to go one round better!

“Over this year, Lady Captain Alison Sedgwick and I are hoping to raise £6,000 for St Luke’s and the money donated for this challenge is a big boost to the total.”

Matt added: “My feet are sore and my ankles and legs ache but I am thrilled that we have completed the challenge, particularly in the weather we have faced.

“The rain was welcome to cool us down, but with the strong winds at times it was very difficult to keep going.

“Knowing that we had generous supporters at the Club made it much easier to get to the finish line.”
