Knitting, nattering…and raising money

WHAT does it take to make a great fundraising event? Just a pair of knitting needles and some good conversation.

Members of Sheffield’s Netherby Knit and Natter group in Beauchief raised more than £800 for St Luke’s with their Christmas sale of items they had made during their informal crafting and chatting sessions.

And that brings the creative group’s total for St Luke’s fundraising to an outstanding £13,170.

The group have spent the last seven years raising money in memory of member Jill Driskell’s son Will, who was a St Luke’s patient as he battled against lymphoma.

It was Will who had actually encouraged Jill to take up knitting and following his death it became a hobby that grew into a successful fundraising campaign.

“What Jill and her friends have proved is that even the simplest activity can become a great way of raising money,” said our Community Fundraising Manager Megan Senior.

“This is an incredible amount to have raised and we look forward to working with the Netherby Knit and Natter group for many years to come.”
