‘Be Kinder’ Run Club’s Ultimate Act of Kindness

07 October 2025

It was April this year when Sheffield runner, nicknamed “Kinder”, set up the ‘Be Kinder’ Run Club as a way to get fit and connect with the local community.

And in August 2025, Kinder, along with other members of the group Beau, Danny and Jacob, set themselves the huge challenge of running all the way from Sheffield to Skegness – all in memory of Kinder’s Mum, Doreen Taylor, and sister-in-law, Diane Perrozzi, who received St Luke’s support.

The running club meet regularly at Mather Road Playground in Darnall, but they swapped out their usual 3k or 5k route, for the ultimate 85-mile challenge, which they completed in an impressive 23 hours.

All in all, they raised a whopping £3,372 for our patient care, and we couldn’t be more grateful for their support.

Kinder reflects on the race, which was one of love, laughter and exhaustion.

“It wasn’t easy, but every step carried meaning, and we kept Doreen and Diane close in our hearts the whole way,” he recalls.

“Both Doreen and Diane received incredible care from St Luke’s, and this run was our way of honouring their memory and giving something back to the hospice that supported our family when it mattered most.”

“We are so grateful for everyone’s kindness and generosity, which has heled us raise over £3,000. This money will help other families receive the same compassion and dignity that meant so much to us.”

“We are so grateful for every donation, every message, and every bit of encouragement. Together, we proved that love, friendship and community spirit can carry us a very long way.”

Our Community & Events Fundraising Manager, Katie Fielding, said:

“This run was an absolutely epic challenge, running the distance of over 3 marathons in one go! We are amazed by the team’s resilience, and we are so grateful for their dedication to raising a huge amount of money for St Luke’s.”
