One of Sheffield’s most cherished festive traditions will shine once again this December, as St Luke’s Hospice Festival of Light returns for 2025.
Each year, thousands of twinkling lights illuminate the hospice’s beautiful Little Common Lane gardens, each one dedicated in memory of a loved one. The Festival of Light is more than just a celebration – it’s a moment of reflection, remembrance, and togetherness.
This year’s event, proudly supported by Saxton Mee, will take place on Sunday 7 December, hosted by BBC Look North presenter and long-time St Luke’s supporter, Tom Ingall.
Joasia Lesniak, St Luke’s Head of Fundraising, said: “Festival of Light has been one of our most important fundraising events for more than 25 years, and this year we’re aiming to make it more magical than ever.
“It’s a truly special evening where our community comes together to celebrate the lives of loved ones. For many of our supporters, it marks the beginning of the festive season - a tradition they return to year after year.”
Alongside the heartfelt ceremony and official light switch-on, visitors can enjoy complimentary mulled wine and mince pies, delicious offerings from a variety of local street food vendors, and live music from special guest performers.
Highlights include a moving performance by the St Luke’s Singers – a group made up of patients and carers – performing their original composition, A Beautiful Place.
To help ease traffic around the hospice, First Bus will once again provide a free Park and Ride service from the Abbeydale Road Tesco car park, with the first bus departing at approximately 3.45pm and the last return journey leaving the hospice at 7.20pm. Visitors are strongly encouraged to use this service, as parking near the site is limited.
Gates open at 4pm, with the ceremony beginning at 6pm.
