Bike and Car show celebrates the life of Biker Chick Joanne

There’s only one way to celebrate the life of a self-confessed Biker Chick…and that’s with a special Bike and Car Show!

Joanne Pears loved a life on two wheels but that spirit of adventure was brought to a halt when she was diagnosed with bowel cancer and died at St Luke's ten years ago.

Now, though, daughter Amy Rodgers is celebrating that passion for the open road by organising a Bike and Car Show that will be held at Dinnington Rugby Club on July 28 from noon till 5pm.

“Mum loved motor bikes and was a real biker chick – that’s actually how she referred to herself,” said Amy.

“She did have her own bike when she was younger and then she and my stepdad Phil had a bike too but it was big and she couldn’t touch the floor so she could only ride as a passenger.”

As the tenth anniversary of Joanne’s death approached, Amy decided it was time to arrange a special fundraiser in her mum’s memory.

“Mum was only 43 and she did fight the cancer all the way but there came that point where she needed support,” Amy said.

“St Luke’s were attentive, they were very caring, they made sure mum was as comfortable as she could be and that’s why we want to give something back.”

As well as attracting bike and car enthusiasts from across the region – with a show and shine contest for both bikes and cars - the free afternoon will have a host of family fun activities, a raffle and refreshments as well as live music.

“Obviously we want to raise as much money as possible on the day but it’s important too that this is a day that celebrates mum’s life.”
