Ultramarathon runners Hannah and John set the pace

18 May 2021

FORGET the 26 miles of the marathon…runners  Hannah Murton and John Egginton won’t be stopping until they’ve clocked up 62 miles non-stop for St Luke’s!

The couple, who live in Norfolk Park and work at the University of Sheffield, have signed up for the tough Dixons Carphone Race to the Stones Ultramarathon in July.

Setting off from Lewknor in Oxfordshire, they will follow the Ridgeway, celebrated as Britain’s oldest path, as they follow a historic trail past Wayland’s Smithy, Uffington White Horse and Barbury Castle before reaching the iconic ancient Stone Circle at Avebury.

“After the last year we have all had, we felt like we needed something to work towards and to look forward to so we decided to set ourselves the ultimate test and enter an ultramarathon, while raising money for an incredible cause,” said John.

“We will be raising money for St Luke's, who cared for both my godparents, Malcolm and Margaret Whyte, at the end of their lives.

“We have done half marathons in the past so we wanted to challenge ourselves and see if we could go the extra distance.

“It’s a challenging time for charities too and I know from personal experience how much great work St Luke’s does.

“We are following a training plan and we are sticking to it  because we’ve already raised £950 and would like to at least get to £1,000.”
