Biz Kids go to top of the class in our annual fundraising challenge

PUPILS from Sheffield’s Mylnhurst School proved they really are a class act as they were named the St Luke’s Biz Kids champions of 2020.

Biz Kids is our annual challenge that encourages the young entrepreneurs of the future, with local businesses providing participating primary schools with a £100 seed fund that the children then use to raise as much money as possible by developing their business skills.

This year’s challenge saw children from Anns Grove Primary, Windmill Hill Primary, St Thomas of Canterbury, St Wilfrid’s, Westways, Mylnhurst, Tinsley Meadows, Dore Primary and Carterknowle Junior taking part.

They were supported by Sheffield Chamber of Commerce and city businesses LB Foster, Aviva, Henry Boot, Hawsons, Highlander UK, Mercia motors and Born and Raised.

And the overall winners, with a final total of £3,312.15, were the children from Mylnhurst.

Their imaginative ideas included a reindeer race, a Monsal Trail cycle ride, afternoon tea and a disco.

The winners of the Biz Kids Enterprise Award were the children of St Wilfrid’s who delivered the best presentation on judging day, covering how they achieved the key learning objectives of the challenge.

“The truth is that every school who took part is a champion and we are proud of everything that every child has achieved by taking part and supporting St Luke’s,” said our Community Fundraising Assistant Morven Keay.

“Judging was as difficult as ever because, as always, the children came up with such great fundraising ideas.”

Among the imaginative ways the children found to raise money were talent contests, movie nights, craft sales, Christmas jumper and pyjama days, bake sales, discos, penalty shoot outs and Splat the Teacher events

Morven added: “We saw imagination, flair and enormous enthusiasm - all the things to make the Dragon’s Den stars of the future.”
