ACCLAIMED Sheffield singer songwriter Richard Hawley has added his voice to our new animation to mark Dying Matters Awareness Week.
The film tackles the issue of death as the elephant in the room and has Richard explaining why it is so important to talk about death and sharing his own experience of the time his father was a patient at St Luke's.
The film – created by Sheffield animator Laura Newbould-Jones - is being released as part of Dying Matters Awareness Week, commencing May 14, the annual opportunity to place the importance of talking about dying, death and bereavement firmly on the national agenda.
“We were delighted that Richard agreed to add his distinctive voice to this ground breaking new piece of work,” said our Deputy Chief Executive and Director of Care Judith Park.
“Having experienced for himself the levels of care that all our patients receive he was happy to help bring this important subject to the widest possible audience.
“Anything we can do to bring the important but sensitive subject of death and dying more into the open has to be a positive move.
“As Richard says in the film, we should not let death be the large elephant in the room – it’s important that we should all be able to talk about this very important subject that will touch all our lives at some stage.”
