Louise puts in the extra hours for Night Strider

Whilst many of our St Luke's staff will be #stridingtogether with our other Night Striders, we'll also have a lot of staff volunteering on the night, like our Administrative Coordinator, Louise who manages the teams that process all our patient referrals.

As well as working for St Luke’s, Louise will also be volunteering for us on Saturday 8 October, giving up an evening of her free time for Night Strider.

“I’m really looking forward to volunteering at Night Strider. I’ll be at a Cheer Station so will be cheering on the walkers and celebrating their achievements when they finish. I feel so lucky to be involved and I think that the atmosphere will be fantastic!’’

“The reason I’m volunteering is because I’m proud to work for St Luke’s. I think Night Strider is a great opportunity to raise the profile of the charity and bust some myths about the work that we do. We get a lot of patients who are really anxious about coming here because they think that it will be a dark, miserable place, but within a few minutes of arriving those worries have disappeared, and patients and relatives feel more at ease. Numerous close family and friends in my own life have been affected by cancer or other terminal illnesses and I wish they’d had the opportunity to experience St Luke’s. St Luke’s makes such a difference to patients and relatives experiences towards end of life so it’s really important to spread the word about this amazing charity. I’m really looking forward to bringing some friends along with me to volunteer on the night.’’

Night Strider is one of our biggest events and we still need over 80 volunteers like Louise to help make it a success. Why not join us by volunteering either solo or with a friend? There are roles to suit everyone including marshals, cheering station and pit stop volunteers, face painters and much more… and the feeling you get from supporting such an exciting, large scale event cannot be overstated.

Interested? You can view the different Night Strider volunteer roles here, or for more information please email Victoria Turton or call 0114 235 7552.

Registration for Night Strider is still open but we have limited places left, so sign up sooner rather than later to guarantee your place on the night.

Whether striding or volunteering, we hope to see you on the night!
