Qualifications in Retail at St Luke’s

Sylvia Retail Qualification Volunteer

Working collaboratively with Derby College, St Luke’s is pleased to be able to offer fully funded* NVQ qualifications for volunteers working in our shops.

Depending on your current level of experience, you can gain the following:

Customer Service Level 2 (Knowledge)

This short course consist of 2 units:

  • Delivery of Effective Customer Service
  • Supporting the Customer Environment

You will be supported by an assessor from Derby College in the shop where you work. The qualification is gained through the completion of a workbook.

On completion of this qualification, if you wish, you can move on to the Diploma course.

Retail Diploma Level 2

This is a full NVQ and will take approximately 4 – 6 months to complete.

You will be supported by an assessor in the shop where you work, with regular meetings to help you achieve the units needed to gain the full qualification.


*To qualify for funding you must be over 19 years of age, volunteering for a minimum of 16 hours per week and unemployed. You do not have to be claiming benefits to qualify, but do have to be classed as unemployed.

NUS benefits (National Union of Students)

As an extra benefit, being a student of Derby College means you will be able to purchase an NUS extra card which gives hundreds of discounts at a variety of retail outlets.

To assist the Shop Manager/Deputy Shop Manager in promoting the work that St Luke’s undertakes within the community of Sheffield. To provide an efficient and effective customer service to the visitors of the shop and to ensure appropriate standards of security and health and safety are met and maintained at all times.
