Sustainable Style at St Luke's

Shop secondhand, love the environment and support your local Sheffield hospice.

Throughout September, we put a spotlight on our shops to highlight the positive environmental impact of charity shopping, aka shopping secondhand and shopping sustainably.

From incredible savings on amazing fashion to doing your bit for the environment, in many ways, it really pays to shop secondhand.

Shopping sustainably is a core part of our Retail team’s ethos – we’re always thinking about how we can be more green and do our part to help reduce the environmental impact of the fashion industry.

Our income has been affected by coronavirus over the last year, with long periods of shop closures and cancelled fundraising events to contend with. By shopping in our shops, you are helping to support us as we financially recover, so that we can still be here, caring for Sheffield.

How can I get involved with Sustainable Style at St Luke's?

Visit your local St Luke's shop to see what you can find! You would be surprised about what you can find in a charity shop. There are so many amazing and wonderful things. Click here to see our chain of 13 St Luke’s charity shops across Sheffield.

Keep an eye out on our social media channels for content from across our shops and catch up on content from our Sustainable Style at St Luke’s campaign, including a special video and Instagram takeover from local sustainable fashion influencer Charity Shop Gal!

Get involved with the campaign. Share your fantastic charity shop finds with us by posting photos and tagging us on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, and using our hashtags #shopstlukes and #shoplovesupport

*When items are donated to St Luke’s that we are not able to sell in our shops, they are passed onto one of our recycling partners who pays us for the materials. This generates steady and reliable additional income, while making sure that we are reusing and recycling wherever possible.

Charity Shop Gal : Faye's story

Meet Faye Wagstaffe, the fashionista who makes all her stylish purchases from Sheffield's charity shops and is spreading the word about sustainable fashion by taking her message onto Instagram where she goes by the name of @charity_shop_gal.

Faye backed Sustainable Style at St Luke's this September to highlight the fantastic range of pre-loved clothing available, doing something positive for the environment and backing a charity she is passionate about.

Faye told us: “For fashionable people, charity shopping really works because it gives them an opportunity to experiment with their fashion and try things that they might not necessarily be able to afford in the High Street or other shops. It makes fashion very affordable and it makes people experiment with their styles.”

Don't forget to get involved by showing off your St Luke’s purchases on social media and tagging us. Would you believe us if we told you all of the amazing outfits photographed below are created using donated items from St Luke's shops and modelled by our very own Liliya Molodetskaya - volunteer at our Broomhill Vintage shop!

Shop. Love. Support.
