We're asking the people of Sheffield to join in our £5 million appeal to rebuild and redevelop our hospice’s In Patient Centre.
Our 'Room To' appeal was launched in May 2012 at a special event attended by more than 100 civic leaders, councillors and celebrities and representatives of the business community at the city centre premises of law firm DLA Piper.
St Luke’s Chief Executive Peter Hartland told attendees that without significant investment, the hospice’s inpatient unit will fail, and its role in caring for the people of Sheffield will be at risk.
“It is no longer fit for our purposes, or to meet our aspirations for true hospice care,” he said.
Work on the £5 million project, to create a new In Patient Centre with 14 single en suite rooms and two three bed bays, again with en suite facilities, started in June 2012 and is scheduled to be completed by October 2013.
The good news is that, by December 2012, £2.4 million has already been raised, with an aditional £0.5 million provided from the hospice’s cash reserves. The Sheffield Star, our official media partner for the campaign, has also pledged to raise £100,000 over the next two years.
But of course there's still a long way to go. To find out how you can support the ‘Room To’ campaign, please visit our appeal website at www.roomto.org.uk
