Fashion
gets a makeover at St Luke’s
FASHIONS
get a facelift and St Luke’s Hospice gets a boost
thanks to the efforts of South Yorkshire’s talented
young designers.
Students from the University of
Sheffield Students in Free Enterprise organisation
are involved in a range of social and commercial
projects which harness students’ entrepreneurial
and volunteering spirit to make a difference in
the local community and around the world.
But their latest scheme aims to
raise vital funds for St Luke’s Hospice – and
help the environment at the same time by recycling
clothes that have fallen from favour.
They
have linked up with the hospice’s Ecclesall Road
shop to develop a project which gives young designers
from across the region the chance to remodel stock
and create stylish new looks that will then be
sold to the city’s fashion-conscious bargain hunters

Kevin’s
American adventure supports South Yorkshire hospices
MANAGING
director Kevin Sammons is celebrating his half
century by hitting the highway…and raising cash
for St Luke’s Hospice.
Kevin,
who lives in Dronfield Woodhouse with wife Julie,
will mark his 50th birthday but embarking on an
epic 5,000 mile motorbike ride across the USA.
And
the boss of the Alfreton-based Pub People Company
aims to use the adventure to raise money for St
Luke’s.
The
trek will take Kevin from San Francisco in California
to Baltimore in Maryland, a journey that will
take in several of the USA’s most famous sights,
including Las Vegas, Death Valley and Dolly Parton
theme park Dollywood.
“I
chose to support St Luke’s because a family member
was a patient there and we have never forgotten
how well he was treated,” said Kevin.
“I
wanted my 50th birthday to be something special
and I decided this would be the best way to make
it memorable and do something worthwhile at the
same time.”
Lifelong
bike enthusiast Kevin will be joined by ten biker
friends from around the country for the journey
which will take a full month to complete, setting
off on June 9 and returning exactly four weeks
later.
“I’ll
be targeting all the people I’ve had business
dealings with over the years - the accountants,
the lawyers, the bankers – and persuading them
to give something back to two very good causes,”
he said.
“And
if anybody else wants to sponsor me I’d be happy
to hear from them too. I have a Justgiving web

New
looks for old at Hospice fashion show
GREAT fashion doesn’t have to be new fashion…as
a major charity event in aid of Sheffield’s St Luke’s
Hospice will demonstrate.
A Spring Fashion Show being held at Sheffield
United’s Platinum Suite on March 11 will showcase the
best of second-hand styles.
The event is being organised with the
support of Jigsaw Events, part of Sheffield Hallam University’s
Venture Matrix, the organisation that supports student
entrepreneurs.
And the clothes that will be worn on the
night by a team of 30 volunteer models will have been
donated by students and lecturers from the university.
“There are around 30,000 students at Hallam
as well as 4,000 members of staff so we’re hoping to get
a fantastic range of clothes to suit all ages, all tastes
and all pockets,” said St Luke’s Hospice Community Fundraising
Manager Abigail Batchelor.
“The clothes will be available to buy
on the night and any that are unsold will then go to our
chain of seven shops across the city.”
Tickets
to the event cost £6.50, with concessions at £4.50,
and are available on 0114 235 7556.
