| Fashion
gets a makeover at St Luke’s
FASHIONS
get a facelift and St Luke’s Hospice gets a boost thanks to the
efforts of South Yorkshire’s talented young designers.
Students
from the University of Sheffield Students in Free Enterprise organisation
are involved in a range of social and commercial projects which
harness students’ entrepreneurial and volunteering spirit to make
a difference in the local community and around the world.
But
their latest scheme aims to raise vital funds for St Luke’s Hospice
– and help the environment at the same time by recycling clothes
that have fallen from favour.
They
have linked up with the hospice’s Ecclesall Road shop to develop
a project which gives young designers from across the region the
chance to remodel stock and create stylish new looks that will
then be sold to the city’s fashion-conscious bargain hunters.
“Basically,
St Luke’s customers will be getting designer clothes at great
prices,” said SIFE’s Aimee Clark.
“It’s
good for St Luke’s because they get 65 per cent of the proceeds,
it’s good for the designers because they receive a 25 per cent
commission on sales and it’s good for SIFE because we get 10 per
cent, which is then re-invested in other social projects.
“The
designs will all be women’s wear and we are aiming for something
that is quite versatile but also distinctive, a range of clothing
that will be both unique and affordable.
The
new St Luke’s Designer Collection will be unveiled with a special
preview at the hospice’s Ecclesall Road shop on February 19 and
will then go on general sale from February 20.
“We
are delighted that the University of Sheffield and SIFE have chosen
to work with the hospice,” said St Luke’s Retail manager Karen
Britton.
“Once
again, I feel this line will demonstrate how St Luke’s is leading
the way in developing the idea of what charity shops are all about.”
