About
St Luke's
Although
St Luke’s cares for incurably ill people and their families, it
is more about living than dying. Nearly half of the patients admitted
to our ward are discharged back home after care and receive support
from our specialist community nurses and / or attend on a daily
basis for therapy support at the day hospices. We have patients
with a wide variety of different illnesses such as cancer, heart
disease, lung disease and some neurological type illnesses.

| We
still need your support! |
| In
addition to its staff, the Hospice is indebted to its army of
over 500 unpaid volunteers, who perform a variety of functions
both at the Hospice and at the Hospice's six charity shops.
These
include nursing volunteers, flower arrangers, volunteer drivers
for transport to Day Units, religious services, volunteers for
the tea bar, patient kitchen, lottery volunteers, fundraisers
and a host of others too numerous to mention. Even with all
this help, the Hospice still needs your support to pay our way.

| Leave
a legacy |
| Each
year, a considerable part of our income comes from charitable
bequests. In fact, we could not exist without the generosity of
people who remember us in their wills. These bequests vary in
size. Sometimes the legacy is in the form of an item of jewellery
or antique furniture.
There
are many reasons for these bequests. Some people have been patients
at St Luke's, some have worked as volunteers, and some just wish
to benefit their local community and may have no remaining family.
All charitable requests are tax-free and may help reduce inheritance
tax.
