part of the Wilkes Education and Resource Centre, St Luke's Medical
Library is a unique and specialist resource covering a wide variety
of subjects related to the many facets of hospice, supportive
and palliative care. It contains over 3,500 books of medical and
nursing interest, with main sections devoted to care of the dying,
pain and symptom control, ethics, spiritual care, counselling
and bereavement studies. A wide range of general, specialist nursing
and medical journals are housed at the library.
Lending facilities are available to members of staff, volunteers
and students on courses run by St Luke's Education Centre in partnership
with Sheffield Hallam University. The library is usually available
on a reference only basis to people from outside the hospice.
An enquiry service via telephone, post and e-mail for information
on all aspects of supportive and palliative care is also provided.
A specialist bookshop with various books, pamphlets and articles
on the subject areas within supportive and palliative care is
available to all interested parties.
A limited photocopying service is also available for a fee.
