EDUCATION AND RESOURCE CENTRE
St.
Luke’s commitment to palliative care education began in 1977.
Today the Centre offers an undergraduate and postgraduate programmes
validated by Sheffield Hallam University (SHU). Up to 60 credits
from previous study may be imported toward either diploma or degree.
Any of the modules forming these programmes can be taken as part
of another diploma/degree or for personal development.
From
January 2009 a new partnership between St Luke’s and Sheffield
Hallam University is proposed for the MSc in Supportive and Palliative
Care. Taught palliative care modules will be offered at St Luke’s
and those at distance learning at the university. Application
for all postgraduate modules from January 2009 will be via the
SHU website.
Design
of programmes is purposefully flexible to accommodate students
combining work with study. Students select modules reflecting
their individual preference for timing and content. Group and
individual tutorials are programmed during each module. Specialist
Lecturers are also available for support on other days.
The onsite resource Centre provides ready access to specialist
books and journals, advice and access to electronic literature
searches, and photocopying service managed by the librarian. Comfortable,
spacious and well equipped, the Centre provides facilities conducive
to study, with refreshments and lunch available in the hospice
dining room. The Centre has free parking.
The
Wilkes Education and Resource Centre forms part of the developing
Clinical Learning Education Audit and Research Institute at the
hospice.
